Gupt Navratri 2022 Date Reason Behind Lion Became Ride Of Devi Durga

Gupt Navratri 2022: Gupt Navratri of Ashadh month is going to start from 30th June 2022. Just as nine forms of Maa Durga are worshiped in Chaitra and Shardiya Navratri. Similarly, during the worship of 10 Mahavidyas in Gupt Navratri, the eternal flame is lit. Brightness, strength and power are the symbols of Maa Durga and her riding lion is the symbol of aggression and bravery. Let us know why the lion is the vehicle of Maa Durga and what is the story behind it?

Lion came to hunt Maa Parvati

Once Goddess Parvati was absorbed in severe penance. During that time a hungry lion reached there to hunt the goddess, but mother Parvati was so immersed in penance that the lion kept silently watching the hungry and thirsty Goddess Parvati for a long time. Seeing Goddess Parvati, the lion thought that when she would wake up from penance, he would make her his food. But this could not happen.

lion sat hungry for years

Due to the influence of the mother, that lion also sat there silently for years with the mother doing penance. When Goddess Parvati’s penance was completed, Lord Shiva appeared and blessed Mother Parvati with the boon of being Gauravna i.e. Mother Gauri. Since then Mother Parvati came to be known as Mahagauri. After this the mother saw that the lion also sat hungry and thirsty for years during his penance.

Lion got the boon of riding Maa Durga

The mother was pleased with this effort of the lion. He thought that the lion should also get the fruits of his penance, so he made the lion his ride. In this way the lion i.e. the lion became the vehicle of Mother Durga and the name of Mother Durga was Sherawali.
