IAS Success Story: Despite being physically handicapped, Ira Singhal is the first participant in the country to top the general category of UPSC. UPSC Exam 2014 Topper Ira’s story can be inspirational for every participant. Ira Singhal is known as a committed, dedicated and hard working officer.
Born in Meerut district of UP, Ira Singhal dreamed of becoming a District Magistrate in her childhood. She spent her early childhood in Meerut. After which his family shifted to Delhi. Ira had told that when she was 7-8 years old, due to the riots in Meerut, there was a curfew for a long time. Then she used to hear from the people that the District Magistrate imposes curfew. Since then, she grew up and decided to become the District Magistrate (DM).
Ira did her graduation from a reputed college located in Delhi and MBA from Faculty of Management Studies (FMS). She worked as a strategy manager in a large confectionery. Ira was happy with her job, but was not satisfied. After which he decided to fulfill his childhood dream and started preparing for UPSC exam.
Ira Singhal gave UPSC exam in the year 2010, 2011 and 2013. In all these three attempts, he got an IRS posting. But due to disability, he was not allowed to join the post. After this he filed a case against the commission. After winning the case, Ira got her posting but she continued her preparation to become an IAS and created history by topping the general category of UPSC exam in the year 2014.
