According to the new rules, students will be eligible for PhD admission without completing the master’s programme. Finalized by the University Grants Commission. An announcement in this regard is likely to be made by the University Grants Commission by the end of June. Along with this, it is also expected to be implemented from the upcoming 2022-23 academic session.
Promoting the FYUP initiated under the National Policy on Education (NEP), the regulations state that a candidate seeking admission after 4 years/8 semester bachelor’s degree must have a minimum CGPA of 7.5/10. At the same time, there is a relaxation of 0.5 CGPA for SC / ST / OBC / PWD and Economically Weaker Section candidates.
According to UGC President M Jagadesh Kumar, encouraging four-year undergraduate students to pursue PhD is important for improving the research ecosystem in our HEIS. That is why we are allowing four year UG students who have CGPA of 7.5/10 or above. He is eligible for PhD admission. At the same time, those who have a CGPA less than 7.5, they will have to do a one-year master’s degree.
According to the new rules, 40 percent of the vacant seats can be filled through university-level examination. Two modes of admission: 100% on the basis of national level entrance examinations or national level entrance examinations and university level or state level entrance examinations with a 60-40 split is recommended.
